An international group of scientists found the earliest evidence of stay of the Neanderthals and the Denisovsky person on the territory of ancient Siberia. For the first time researchers were able to accurately determine when these ancient people lived in the Altai, Denisova cave. About it reported in a press release on EurekAlert!.
Denisovsky man is a species or a subspecies of the extinct people, the few whose remains were first found in the galleries of Denisova cave in the Altai region. Here also were found the bones of Neanderthals. At the moment, this cave is the only known place in the world where at different times there were different species of hominids. Recently there has been evidence that the denisovans and Neanderthals could interbreed between themselves and to acquire the joint offspring. However, the exact time of the habitation of the archaic people in the cave still was not known.
In the new work scientists have done multiple radiocarbon Dating of teeth, bones and charcoal found in the upper layers of the cave sediments. In addition, it was held optical Dating of sediment samples, which is determined when the last time was in the light. The results showed that the denisovans had lived in a cave for at least 200 thousand years ago, and to settle it they could be 300 thousand years ago. Neanderthals have come here 100-200 thousand years ago.
