Rosstat 2020, will explore the level of poverty in Russia using the updated method. It is reported by RBC with reference to the Ministry of labor.
The Agency plans to expand the sample and add it to the categories that are now not represented in the study – women with children up to six years. Preparation for the transition to the new methodology will be completed this year.
It is assumed that modernization of this technique may increase the overall number of poor in the country. According to the Director of the Institute for social analysis and forecasting Ranhigs Tatiana Maleva, women with children up to six years – the most vulnerable of all families. She also noted that this group is at risk of poverty.
Currently the poverty level is determined on the basis of sample survey of budgets of households. They are based on data from interviews of family members and maintenance of records of all expenses.
Earlier on January 16, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov said that the main priority for the head of state is to reduce the level of poverty in the country.
January 15, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova spoke about the poverty reduction in Russia. She referred to the data of Rosstat, according to which by 2018, it amounted to 13.3 percent versus 13.8 percent from a year earlier. She also proposed to change the methodology for calculating poverty level, to make it easier to comply with the provisions of the may decree of President Vladimir Putin.
