India wanted more Russian fighters

India wants to sign with Russia the new contract relating to a heavy double multipurpose su-30MKI. About it reports the Indian newspaper Business Standard.

According to its sources, the shortage of planes Military-air forces of India intend further to seek Moscow’s help in the creation of another squadron. It is noted that the country’s defense Ministry plans to sign a contract to supply the Indian Corporation HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd) of the components and systems needed to build an additional 18 fighters in the city of Nasik (Maharashtra).

The publication notes that the production of additional su-30MKI could begin after 2020. Then HAL will end the current contract for the production of these fighter jets under the Russian license.

Su-30MKI was the development of a family of aircraft su-30K (su-30MK), created in early 1990-ies on the basis of double training-combat su-27UB. Currently, the Indian air force have about 250 such aircraft.

In April 2018 it was reported about the emergence of India from a joint programme of the FGFA (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft). She suggested the creation of India’s first fifth generation fighter is based on Russian multifunctional fighter su-57.
