American artillery gun, capable of firing at a distance of more than 1.6 thousand kilometers, violates the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty), told RIA Novosti the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Bondarev.
“Violation of Americans of all norms of international law, treaties to which the United States are, in the habit. Became aware of the development by the Americans of the artillery, which violates the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range”, — said the Senator.
Bondarev noted that “today, the contract is valid, they are from it is still de jure not come out, and then a list of violations (of which there were about a hundred at a recent count) updated again”.
According to the editor of the magazine “national defense” Igor Korotchenko, the us “supergun” is in reality a missile weapon. “We are talking, most likely about some kind of launcher and missile system. The artillery shell will not be able to cover a distance of 1.6 thousand kilometers, it is contrary to all the laws of physics” — said the expert.
The INF Treaty was signed by the Soviet Union and the United States in December 1987 and became a symbol of the end of the cold war. The agreement forbade the USSR and the USA to produce, test and deploy ballistic and cruise land-based missiles of medium (1,000 to 5,500 kilometers) and small (from 500 to 1000 km) range, and was obliged to liquidate the appropriate launcher. Moscow and Washington have repeatedly accused each other of violating the INF Treaty.
In January, the American military told about the development of artillery guns, allowing a distance of 1.6 thousand kilometers to hit Chinese ships in the South China sea.
