The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said that early presidential elections are planned. Assumptions about the resignation of Nazarbayev appeared after 4 February, he appealed to the constitutional Council (CC) of Kazakhstan with the request to clarify the position on early termination of powers of the President. 5 Feb in Facebook published an explanation Nazarbayev in connection with his appeal to the constitutional court.
According to 78-year-old Nazarbayev, the treatment is “absolutely a routine question.” It was repeatedly asked under what conditions the President can resign, because Kazakhstan’s Constitution is not determined, in contrast to the basic laws of other countries.
“Due to the fact that the question I asked, I asked the constitutional Council to clarify it,” — Nazarbayev said, noting that “the noise around this is not necessary.”
“Of course, everyone is interested in, the most interesting question — elections, transit and so on. Read the Constitution, read the law on the President, everything is well painted: when the elections happen when the deadline passes. Yes, the President under the Constitution, the laws has the right to declare early elections, but we are not threatened. So let’s calm down and will work normally”, — concluded Nazarbayev.
The head of the Republic asked the constitutional Council to clarify the constitutional norm about the termination of the presidential term. The appeal generated a wave of speculation that the politician was going to leave his post early.
Nazarbayev is the first and only President of independent Kazakhstan. In 2015 elections, he won more than 97 percent of the vote. Term of office expires in 2020.
