Russia is among non-free countries. This is stated in the February report of the American NGO Freedom House.
Experts estimate the level of freedom in Russia by 20 points, as in the previous year. A maximum of 100 points received only three countries — Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Analysts say Russia’s recent elections as unfree and unfair, have noted the lack of opportunities for the development of the opposition, the issue of political rights in different segments of the population. The organization notes that anti-corruption measures in the country are not effective enough, there is a problem with the independence of the media, freedom of worship and political views. The Russian judicial system, the experts also can not be called independent.
In addition, Russia is accused of repression against the Crimean Tatars. The work of journalists in the country called threat: they could be arrested or even killed.
In total, Freedom House counts 87 in the world, free countries and territories, 64 and 58 partly free not free. The number of first in 2018 dropped two countries: Serbia and Hungary. At the same time, the hardest situation has deteriorated in Nicaragua, she was involved in a number of nonfree. Has improved the most in Ethiopia, however, it is not moved to another category.
In late January Russia at the end of 2018 took the 138-th place in the corruption perception index of Transparency International and was on a par with Guinea, Iran, Lebanon, Mexico and Papua New Guinea.
