The former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said that the EU had deceived him after he in February 2014 signed witnessed by European diplomats, the agreement with the opposition. He said this at a press conference in Moscow, reports “Radio Freedom”.
“I threw like a sucker,” he admitted.
At the same press conference, Yanukovych said that he recently received information about preparation of attempt at it. In addition, he told about the threats to the leader of the public movement “Ukrainian choice” Victor Medvedchuk, in respect of which investigated the charges of treason and separatism.
February 21, 2014 Viktor Yanukovych as President of Ukraine, on the background of bloody clashes in Kiev signed an agreement with the opposition, which was designed to end the political crisis in the country. Other signatories were leaders of the opposition. From the EU side the document was witnessed Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Radoslaw Sikorski, the foreign Ministers of Germany and Poland respectively, as well as the French diplomat Eric Fournier. Representatives of the Moscow agreement is not signed.
Despite the fact that the document provided many concessions from the government of Yanukovych, he has failed to stay in power. Back in the day of signing the agreement the protesters, taking advantage of the withdrawal of security forces from Central Kiev, seized government offices. Yanukovich was declared a hunt, but on February 22 he with the help of Russian intelligence services, fled to Russia.
Subsequently, in Ukraine the politician was accused of treason and condemned in absentia, and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment.
