The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, the self-proclaimed interim President of Venezuela Juan Guido wants to restore ties with Israel, according to Reuters.
Guido gave Israeli reporters interview, said that the process of stabilization of relations with Israel is in full swing. Officially about the resumption of diplomatic relations and the opening of a new Venezuelan Embassy in Israel will be announced “in due time”.
In 2009, the Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez broke off diplomatic relations with Israel, accusing the Jewish authorities of the genocide of the Palestinian population. It happened after the anti-terrorist operation in Gaza, which killed hundreds of Palestinians.
The situation in Venezuela escalated on 23 January, when, after mass protests Juan Guido proclaimed himself provisional President. Israel along with USA, Canada, EU and most of the American countries have officially recognized Guide President. Russia, Iran, Mexico and Turkey support the actions of President Nicolas Maduro.
