The peace Treaty involves the solution of a question on military compensation. This was stated by foreign Minister of Japan, Taro Kono, reports TASS.

Kono noted that from a legal point of view in the conclusion of the contract also includes termination of a state of war and the solution of the territorial problem. In addition, it is necessary to solve the problems associated with military compensation, he said. What exactly is meant by this, the Prime Minister said.

On 7 February it became known that Japan stopped using the term “illegal occupation” in relation to the Northern territories — as the Japanese call the Islands of Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan and Habomai. However, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stressed that the Islands belong to Japan, and through negotiation it will seek to return them.

The peace Treaty between Russia and Japan have not signed in for over 70 years. The conclusion of the Tokyo refers to the return control of the Islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai: the Japanese side does not recognize Russian sovereignty over the territory of the South Kuril Islands, considering them part of Hokkaido. Moscow considers them part of the Kuril Islands and consistently recalls the legality of the Russian sovereignty over them: they withdrew from the Soviet Union following the Second world war.
