The health Ministry has decided to reduce the tobacco consumption to five percent in the next 30 years. The concept of state policy on combating tobacco consumption are submitted to the government, reports TASS with reference to Deputy Minister of health Oleg Salaga.

According to plans of officials, with the help of new measures, the tobacco will be gradually withdrawn from legal circulation.

The document notes that to reduce tobacco use in Russia must be continuously and consistently execute scheduled events. To this end, officials intend to prevent the emergence of new types of tobacco products, to halt distribution of electronic cigarettes and promote Smoking cessation.

The Ministry of health pointed to the economic benefits of Smoking cessation. According to the document, reducing tobacco use will reduce morbidity and mortality rates that “significantly exceed any potential tax or other revenues from the sale of tobacco products”.

The concept of state policy on combating tobacco consumption was developed by the Ministry of health in 2018. The authors estimate that the continuous and consistent implementation of their plan every year from bad habits will give up 0.5 percent of the Russians.
