India will produce a navigation chip sets (part of the navigation systems receive signals from satellites) GLONASS Russian design. This was announced by the President of the nonprofit partnership system, Alexander Gurko, reports RIA Novosti.
“The total investment identified in five billion rubles, half gives the Russian Federation, the second — private investors”, — he explained.
According to him, the choice of India instead of China as a production site due to the desire of China to focus on developing its own navigation system.
“I think this year we project a start. Two years on the development of a range of chips. The problem we faced is the sharp depreciation of the chips. Today navigation receiver is worth 1.5 dollars. Seven or eight years ago GLONASS/GPS receiver was worth $ 250. For ten years the drop has exceeded a hundred times”, — said Gurko.
The degree of financial participation of India in the project is not specified. It is known that currently, the chipsets in Russia are supplied by China.
In November last year, the first Deputy General Director of Roskosmos Yuri Urlichich said that GLONASS after 2021 will be part of the project “Sphere”.
In the spring of that year it was reported that the spacecraft GLONASS nearly 40% are composed of foreign components.
