USA may impose sanctions against international payment systems Visa and MasterCard for the conduct of operations in Venezuela, writes Reuters, citing a source in the White house.
“The purpose of these sanctions is to continue to deprive the illegal regime [Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro of access and opportunity to steal from Venezuelans,” — said the Agency interlocutor. Can also be locked in a potential transaction confidants of the President and his loyal power groups, including the military.
In a more global sense restrictions intended to deprive Caracas access to the global financial system and international capital market, including block in the country work payment systems. All of these measures, according to the Agency, the U.S. government has been planned before the events in January when the speaker of the Venezuelan Parliament Juan Guido declared himself interim President.
Earlier, Washington accused the regime of Maduro in attempting to transfer assets out of the country, in particular through the sale of gold from reserves of the Central Bank. These actions in the U.S. called the intent “to Rob the Venezuelan people”.
