The EU will remain faithful to the policy of non-recognition of Crimea as Russian territory. This is stated in the statement of the EU high representative for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini, which is published on the website of the European Council Sunday, March 17.
“The European Union remains committed to full implementation of its policy of non-recognition, including through restrictive measures,” — said in a document released in connection with the five-year anniversary of the referendum in the Crimea. It is also noted that the EU calls on all member States of the UN to take similar measures.
The European Union has also again condemned the growing tension in the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait, which resulted in a “violation of international law by Russia.” In addition, there is once again called to “immediately and without preliminary conditions” for the release of Ukrainian sailors, detained in the incident in the Kerch Strait in November 2018.
The statement also condemned the construction of the bridge Crimea without Ukrainian consent, the growing militarization of the Peninsula and the alleged violation of the rights of inhabitants of the region, which “are forced to take Russian citizenship and to serve in the Armed forces of the Russian Federation”.
