Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has excluded the “Chinese scenario” in relation to the Russian segment of the Internet. He said this live #VKLive, the translation is in “Vkontakte”.
“We do not aspire to such regulation. No firewall here does not arise,” — said Medvedev. He commented on the bill on sustainable Runet.
The Prime Minister stressed that in Russia there is no such regulation in China. “And I’ll even say more: in China, this regulation often does not bring those results on which this regulation was initially focused,” added the head of government.
The bill on the Internet or offline on the protection of the Runet was approved by the state Duma in the first reading on 12 February 2019. Its necessity was explained by the desire to protect themselves from external threats. The law involves the creation of infrastructure that can provide Autonomous operation of the Runet in case of disconnection of Russian operators from the global network.
The Secretary of security Council Nikolai Patrushev said earlier that Russia is not going to disconnect from the Internet, and the bill is a necessary measure because of the threat of disconnecting Russia from the Internet outside.
