The Deputy of the state Duma, the triple Olympic champion Irina Rodnina has opposed the participation of the young skaters in senior competitions. Her words are quoted by “Soviet Sport”.
Rodnina said that she was not interested to watch people skating 14-year-old girls, performing a quadruple jump. She noted that to obtain high points the speech should be interesting, and the young skater to demonstrate it can’t. “I want to see a contest of personalities and not the technical execution of the elements,” explained the champion.
Rodnina also remembered that five years ago, “the whole country went crazy from Yulia Lipnitskaya” who won gold in the team tournament at the 2014 Olympics. “The girl then threw the skates and to watch them not want”, — said the Deputy. She urged not to kill kids Quad jumps. “To compete needs adults. And the children-Champions — it is very often either the ambitions of the parents, or the ambition of the coaches,” concluded Rodnina.
In the championship of Russia in late December of 2018, the first three places were taken by juniors: the winner was 14-year-old Anna Shcherbakova, won the silver Alexander Trusov (14), the bronze medal went to 15-year-old Alyona Kostina. After the competition for the introduction of the age qualification was made by the Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Svetlana Romashina.
