Former President of Georgia and former Governor of the Odessa region of Ukraine, Mikhail Saakashvili urged to vote in the election of the Ukrainian President for a presidential candidate Vladimir Zelensky. He said this in his Facebook.
In his address, Saakashvili called Zelensky “the next President of Ukraine” and called on democratic forces to support him “without any preconditions”. And possible defeat Poroshenko called “a terrific chance for Ukraine.”
Earlier Vladimir Zelensky said that helping Saakashvili may be necessary to the newly elected President, as he “defends democracy of Ukraine in Europe and shows that all their actions”.
According to final data from exit polls, Zelensky is in the lead on elections of the head of the state — 30.6 percent of the electorate voted for him. 17.8 per cent voted for the incumbent President, Petro Poroshenko, 14.2 percent for former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
In may 2015, Poroshenko appointed Saakashvili, Chairman of the Odessa regional state administration. Later the politician resigned in opposition to the President, and in 2017 and lost his Ukrainian citizenship. In February 2018, the Ukrainian intelligence services detained Saakashvili, expelled it from the territory of Ukraine and banned him from entering the country until 2021.
