WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange fears for his life. He stated at the hearing in October 2018, which addressed his claim to the Embassy of Ecuador, a transcript of which was first published in Twitter-account of the organization on Monday, April 8.
“Someone tried to through the window at night to sneak into the Embassy. (…) I threatened murder. This is not a joke,” said Assange to the court. According to him, the UK has admitted that it spends more than $ 20 million on the surveillance of him.
Among the reasons for the treatment to Ecuador for asylum the WikiLeaks founder singled out the democratic structure of the state that upholds freedom of speech. Assange also reminded that the country violates its own Constitution, if will be engaged in the expulsion of its citizens: at the end of 2017, he received an Ecuadorian passport.
April 4, WikiLeaks announced that Assange will soon be deported from the territory of the Embassy of Ecuador, but then denied this information.
In December 2018, the President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno invited Assange to leave the Embassy of his country. He stated that he had received from the UK guarantee that he will not be extradited to any country where his life will be at stake. Despite this, the WikiLeaks founder declined the offer.
In October of that year, Assange has filed a lawsuit against the Embassy of Ecuador in the UK after the diplomatic mission has filed a claim to his behavior.
The man lives in the building of the diplomatic mission for more than five years. During this time, the Ecuadorian government spent on its safety not less than five million dollars. Assange sought asylum in 2012 fearing extradition to Sweden, where he was charged with rape. In may 2017, the investigation was terminated, but he is still afraid of the transfer to the Swedish authorities, as the city of Stockholm will be sending it to US. There the WikiLeaks founder could face death penalty for publishing secret Pentagon papers.
