The Federal service of execution of punishments (FSIN) said that the number of HIV-infected among Russian prisoners. Data are announced on Saturday, April 13, after the all-Russian meeting of heads of medical divisions criminally-Executive system (UIS), reports TASS.
As noted in FSIN, by the beginning of 2019 in institutions of the penal correction system were 61.4 thousand prisoners with HIV, approximately seven percent of all infected people in Russia. Every year through penitentiary institutions, taking into account the newly received and released, runs more than 10 percent of officially recorded HIV-positive Russians.
HIV diagnosis is delivered every tenth convicted man and every fifth woman. In 11 percent of patients the diagnosis was first identified when entering the prison or the colony.
FSIN together with the Ministry of health is working to counter the spread of the disease. 52% of HIV infected persons in places of deprivation of liberty receiving antiretroviral therapy, as a rule, people who belong to the highest risk group.
Earlier it became known that by the end of December 2018, the number of Russians with HIV has reached one million. Russia became the leader among European countries in the number of new cases of HIV infection.
