Floating cosmodrome Sea launch may relocate from California (USA) in the far East (Russia), told RIA Novosti source in the space industry.
The reason for the transfer is the lack of Russian-Ukrainian family of rockets “Zenit”, the production of which was curtailed in 2014, and Moscow’s refusal to provide the Washington technical information on the rocket “Soyuz-5 Light”, which is planned to be developed for Sea launch.
In April the General Director of “Rosatom” Dmitry Rogozin said that on the basis of advanced disposable rockets “Soyuz-5” will create a lightweight commercial reusable vehicle “Soyuz-5 Light”.
In March it was reported that the Russian company S7 Space that owns the floating cosmodrome Sea Launch (“Sea launch”) suspended the contract for the production of 12 Ukrainian carrier rocket “Zenit 3SL”.
The work on creation of floating cosmodrome “Sea launch” began in 1995. The founders of the eponymous company became Boeing, RSC Energia, Norwegian shipbuilding company Kvaerner (now Aker Solutions), the Ukrainian KB “southern” and “Pivdenmash.” In the summer of 2009, the company Sea launch declared bankruptcy and after reorganization of a leading role in the project received the RSC “Energia”. That platform will buy the subsidiary companies of S7 Group became known in September 2016.
