The CEO of the German company Wintershall, which is the investor of the “Nord stream-2”, Mario Mehren stated that the delay in the construction of the pipeline will weaken Europe. About it reports RBC.
According to him, gas project enhances competitiveness and medium and long-term energy security, especially given the reduced production in Europe.
“Further delay will weaken the energy security and competitiveness of Europe and, consequently, the future of Europe”, — he stressed.
The EU needs to be able to use this “safe, direct and efficient transport infrastructure”, said the CEO of Wintershall.
Earlier, the European Commission said that in the future Russia will be forced to return to the table of negotiations about gas transit through Ukraine due to the fact that the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” will not be ready for several years.
The gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” are laid from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea. The total capacity of the pipeline is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. To complete construction and to launch the project is planned in 2019.
