The spacecraft called DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) will be launched in June 2021 with a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg air force base in California (USA), according to NASA.
During the mission the space Agency plans to test the possibility of using kinetic impact to change the trajectory of the asteroid (65803) Didim. This DART will encounter a small satellite (moon) of the asteroid, when the system will be at a distance of about 11 million kilometers from Earth.
The DART budget is $ 69 million, including the cost of launch.
In April 2016 astrophysics from the USA proposed to combat potentially dangerous objects (Poo), in particular asteroids in earth orbit, the use of laser radiation.
Earth Didim, a part of group Apollo, is different elongated orbit (152 million kilometers by 340 million), and the diameter is 0,8 kilometers. At a distance of about 1.1 kilometers from the asteroid is his companion, the diameter of which is estimated at 150 meters, and the period of rotation (around Didim) is 11.9 hours.
