The state Duma adopted a law to toughen criminal responsibility for the drivers who fled the scene of a traffic accident, resulting in serious consequences or death. This was reported on the website of the lower house of Parliament on Wednesday, April 17.
For such an offence now face imprisonment up to seven years and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions within three years. The amendments in administrative and criminal codes.
If the accident suffered by two or more people, and the driver left the scene of an accident, he could be imprisoned for nine years. Leaving the scene of an accident will entail administrative liability only in the absence of signs of penal acts, the document says.
A bill to toughen penalties for the most dangerous traffic violations has been introduced in the lower house of Parliament on 8 April. As noted by the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, the current legislation assumes less responsibility for the people who left the scene of the accident than for those who stayed and passed the test for alcohol.
