The United States and Turkey are unable to break the deadlock during talks on the situation with the purchase by Ankara of the Russian anti-aircraft missile systems s-400. This writes The Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, the parties reiterated their positions. So, the U.S. side stated that Washington will impose sanctions against Turkey if its deal with Moscow will eventually take place. Ankara, in response, reiterated that the contract has been signed and is final.
At the same time it became known earlier that the sides are discussing a new proposal of the Americans to supply Ankara systems and missile defense.
To discuss the purchase of missile systems and air defense in Washington flew the Minister of Finance of Turkey Berat Albayrak.
In early April, Washington canceled the delivery to Turkey of equipment for the F-35 due to the acquisition of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems s-400. In the United States and other NATO countries fear that if Ankara armed with will and With-400, and F-35, the Russian radar systems will learn to calculate and track the American fighters.
A contract to supply Ankara with the four battalions of s-400 was achieved in September 2017. The contract is worth $ 2.5 billion, half of this amount will cover the Russian loan. It was reported that the installation of missile defense systems could begin in October 2019.
