Russia is going to use the fact that the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” will not be launched in 2020, as well as the absence of an agreement on gas transit through Ukraine after 2019 to unleash another gas crisis and to blackmail Europe. This opinion was expressed by the head of the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andrey Kobelev in an interview with TSN.

He called the run of the pipeline in a period of obvious fact. Thus, according to him, the Russian side deliberately dragging out negotiations on gas transit through Ukraine. “The Russians are doing everything possible to agreement (on gas transit through Ukraine after January 31, 2019 — approx. “Of the”) was not in order to blackmail Europe. The gas crisis is their standard procedure in such situations,” — said Kobolyev. He believes that after the expiry of the contract at the end of the year it is possible to completely stop gas transit via Ukraine. In this regard, Korolev emphasized the importance of training by the winter of 2019-2020, and the establishment of additional gas reserves.

The current contract for the transit of Russian gas via Ukraine expires on 31 December 2019. Moscow, Kiev and Brussels are negotiating for transit after 2019. The last meeting was held in January, but the agreement has not been achieved. The next meeting is expected to take place in may — after the election of the President of Ukraine.

In Ukraine, the fear that the launch of “Nord stream-2” and “Turkish stream”, which can also occur in 2019, will make the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) is completely uncalled for. The President of the country Petro Poroshenko in April, said he will continue to fight with the Russian gas pipeline project “Nord stream-2” to the end, and invited German companies to participate in the management of the Ukrainian GTS.

The gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” are laid from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea. To complete the construction and launch of the project is scheduled in 2019, but the process is complicated by the position of Denmark, which still has not issued a permit for the construction of the pipeline on its territory.
