Turkey and US discuss a new proposal by the Americans to supply Ankara systems and missile defense. This is with reference to the Ministry of defence of Turkey, reports TASS.
“After various stages of negotiations to supply Patriot air defense system, the U.S. side has made our country a new proposal that is associated with the system of air and missile defense, which we need. Currently our competent organizations and officials are holding intensive talks on this issue”, — said the Minister of defence of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, after talks with Patrick Hanahana, acting Minister of defense.
The meeting was held in Washington.
Previously, to discuss the purchase of missile systems and air defense in Washington flew the Minister of Finance of Turkey Berat Albayrak.
In early April, Washington canceled the delivery to Turkey of equipment for the F-35 due to the acquisition of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems s-400. In the United States and other NATO countries fear that if Ankara armed with will and With-400, and F-35, the Russian radar systems will learn to calculate and track the American fighters.
A contract to supply Ankara with the four battalions of s-400 was achieved in September 2017. The contract is worth $ 2.5 billion, with half of this amount will cover the Russian loan. It was reported that the installation of missile defense systems could begin in October 2019.
