The Greek Parliament has approved a proposal put forward to the German requirement to pay reparations for damage caused during the Second world war. Appropriate appeal sent to the government that the authorities have taken the necessary diplomatic and legal actions. The Athens-Macedonian news Agency.
The resolution voted by the majority of deputies. Parliamentarians stress that the issue of reparations is still not resolved, and the claims of Greece to Germany on the losses from the First and Second world wars, remain unanswered.
This initiative was supported by the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras. According to him, the requirement to Berlin on compensation — a historical and moral duty of Athens.
In early April Poland has said it wants from Germany’s payments in the amount of not less than 900 billion dollars in reparations.
Greece in 2015, estimated the damage from the Nazis in 278,7 billion euros.
During the Second world war Greece was occupied by the Nazis. They controlled key regions of the country, and part of the secondary territories gave supported the fascism of Italy and Bulgaria. For the period from 1941 to 1944, tens of thousands of Greeks died from famine and repression, the economy was destroyed. In 2015, the Ministry of Finance of Greece has estimated the damage in 278,7 billion euros.
