The Ombudsman self-proclaimed Donetsk national Republic (DND) Daria Morozova assessed the proposals of the presidential candidates of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Zelensky be removed from the talks in Minsk the Chairman of political Council of the Ukrainian party “the Opposition platform for life” Viktor Medvedchuk. Interview with the Ombudsman published on the website of RIA Novosti.
According to Morozova, thanks to Medvedchuk, the two sides reached “good results” in the first place — in the exchange of prisoners of war. Morozov emphasizes that when Kiev sends negotiators without Medvedchuk, to reach an understanding and compromise is not possible.
However, she notes that to meet with officials, such as Medvedchuk or the Deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko, it is not often. “Come, the newly appointed representatives, who say: we have a clear Directive what to tell you, and we are not authorized nothing more to discuss here. How they can find a compromise?”, — asks the Ombudsman. She urges Kiev to send humanitarian sub-group of authorized representatives and stop to send it into the political mainstream.
Earlier, the leader of the presidential race Vladimir Zelensky said that in case of his election victory he has removed Viktor Medvedchuk from the negotiation process. Medvedchuk responded that it cannot be removed from the negotiations because he was not appointed to any position and it works at the personal request of the President of Ukraine.
On the same day, Petro Poroshenko said about the ineffectiveness of Medvedchuk as negotiator and accused him that the policies of “de-facto represents the Russian Federation and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”
In early February against Medvedchuk, an investigation was initiated on charges of treason. In addition, in the midst of the presidential race, he traveled to Moscow for talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that sparked investigations in Ukraine.
In Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk criticized for a close friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2014, the level of influence the journalists described as an “informal Ambassador of Russia in Ukraine”. He is busy in peace talks on the Donbas in Minsk and in the work of the Trilateral contact group, engaged in release of prisoners.
