China has taken a tougher stance in trade negotiations because of the confidence that the U.S. is ready to soften their demands. This writes The Wall Street Journal.
According to sources, this decision was taken after Beijing’s recent actions and statements of the President of the United States Donald trump, who allegedly testified to his willingness to compromise.
In particular, the statement of the head of state about the need to lower the interest rate in the United States was perceived by the Chinese side as “evidence that the President believes the American economy is less stable than he claimed”.
Also, the authorities of Beijing “was inspired” by trump about the friendship with President XI Jinping and his positive feedback on the Vice-Premier of the state Council of the PRC Liu he.
Earlier it was reported that trump has accused China of disrupting commercial transactions. He cautioned that Beijing will face stiff tariffs if no agreement is reached.
Due to the fact that China is not included in the draft trade agreement between the countries, the majority of US demands, Washington has decided to increase duties on Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion with 10 to 25 percent. Beijing has promised to introduce retaliatory measures.
