Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced that railway connection between Russia and Ukraine stops by itself. He told this in an interview Liga.net.
According to him, currently, there is a decline in the number of trips from Ukraine to Russia — train almost no demand, and the occupancy rate of cars is steadily decreasing. “Last year, for the first time in the history of Ukraine the number of trips by rail in the EU countries exceeded the number of trips to the Russian side,” — said Omeljan, adding that does not make sense to “haul air”.
However, complete cessation of railway traffic with Russia is to be expected, said the Minister.
Omeljan previously reported that in a few years the train from Kyiv and Lviv to Moscow will be cancelled because the demand for this route is reduced. Ukrainians, in his opinion, better understand that in the EU you can earn more than in Russia, and in a more comfortable environment. In August 2018 politician proposed to completely eliminate rail links with Russia in order “to protect Ukrainians, who are at your own risk still go to Russia where they can be stolen or fall into the clutches of the FSB or other law enforcement agencies.”
