In the Orthodox Church of Ukraine admitted the possibility of a split

Former head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) Filaret made a schism in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU). He stated this in an interview with TSN.

On the question of a possible division structure Filaret said that allows for such a development. “But we will create a single Church,” he said.

The Patriarch also complained that the head of the DNC Epiphanius rarely communicates with him. “Due to the fact that there is no communication — and it should be — the Church was divided because now my job as the Patriarch, to save the Ukrainian Church,” Filaret added.

After the dissolution of the UOC-KP in December 2018 Filaret is the honorary Patriarch of the DNC. Earlier it became known that he decided to hold a meeting of bishops which met to discuss the prospects of revival of the Kyiv Patriarchate. Epiphanius on the so-called fraternal meeting not invited.

Ptsu was established on 15 December 2018 to the unification Council, initiated by Patriarch Bartholomew and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. It included mostly representatives of the schismatic churches, with chapters of which Constantinople removed the anathema a few months before.

ROC broke Eucharistic communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate immediately after the lifting of the anathema with the Ukrainian schismatics in the fall of 2018. The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church remained part of the Moscow Patriarchate did not recognize the results of the Unification of the Cathedral.

Filaret was led by the UOC-KP since its inception in 1992.
