Poland cancelled a visit by the Israeli delegation refused to discuss the issue of compensation for material damage during the Second world war. It is reported by The Times of Israel.
“In connection with the made at the last minute the Israeli side change in the composition of the delegation from which it became clear that the talks will focus on property restitution, the Polish side decided to cancel the visit,” — said in a press release on the website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland.
To clarify TASS, the leader of the Polish ruling party “Law and justice” Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that “there are financial obligations to Poland”, while most European countries they are absolutely not. He added that some countries in the West are from Poland, the poles have “tens, hundreds of billions or even a trillion euros”.
Israeli media reported that the failed visit had become a “major political achievement”. It is also noted that Poland is the only European Union country that has not enacted laws governing compensation for looted national Jewish property during the Holocaust. According to Israeli officials, this fact continues to “benefit the Polish economy.”
March 1 in Poland came into force a law that introduces criminal liability for propaganda of “Bandera ideology” and accusations against the Polish people involvement in the Holocaust and collaboration with the Nazis. In particular, for the use of the expression “Polish death camps” and other statements that can be interpreted as an attempt to put the poles complicit in the crimes of Nazi Germany.
In February, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki canceled his visit to Israel, after the head of the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu on the cooperation of poles with the Nazis during the Second world war.
