Soviet Olympic champion killed in road accident

Olympic champion in speed skating in the USSR team Klara Guseva was killed in an accident. About it reports “R-Sport”.

82-year-old Gusev was hit by a car. Doctors were unable to save her life.

“I Express my condolences to the families of Guseva. It’s a big loss for all of us”, — said the representative of the Union of skaters of Russia Ramir Kuramshin. Date and place of farewell to an athlete is not yet defined.

Guseva won a gold at the Olympics in 1960 in the United States. Soviet speed skater became the strongest on a distance of 1000 meters. Exactly at the Games in Squaw valley was first introduced competitions in speed skating among women. Thus, Gusev was the first woman who managed to win Olympic gold at that distance. Four years later, the athlete performed at the Olympics in Innsbruck, where he showed the fourth result at the distance of 4000 meters.
