Negotiations Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of state Mike Pompeo in Sochi lasted almost three hours. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
Lavrov described the talks as “Frank and useful”. He added that among the topics covered during the interview was the current situation in Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan and the Iranian nuclear program.
The Minister also noted that he agreed with the Pompeo “to reopen channels of communication between Moscow and Washington”, reports TASS. In addition, Russia and the United States agreed to continue consultations on Syria, including issues on combating terrorism and the return of refugees.
Pompeo previously said about the desire of U.S. President Donald trump to improve relations with Russia.
The previous conversation between Lavrov and Pompeo took place on 6 may at the Arctic Council meeting in Finland.
