According to him, the Ukrainian presidential campaign “can hardly be taken as a model of democratic, free and independent expression”. He noted that most candidates used a play on russophobian sentiment. The victory of Vladimir Zelensky Karasin explained that the Ukrainians thus expressed their attitude to the current government and voted for hope for change for the better.
The diplomat pointed out that the viability and effectiveness of the new Ukrainian government will be determined by “willingness to adequately assess the current realities and challenges facing the country problems.” As an example, Karasin said that the settlement of the crisis in the Donbass based on the Minsk agreements.
