Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has signed the law “On ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language” and warned political opponents against attempts at its repeal or revision. About it reports TASS.
“As soon as you touch revision of the language act or on de-communization, you will feel all the anger of the Ukrainian people. I say as Andrew paruby. We will not allow a rematch,” he said.
He also said that the language law could not be cancelled even in case of appeal to the constitutional court.
Today the Verkhovna Rada has blocked all four resolutions on the abolition of the language law put forward by opposition deputies. They stated that they will continue to fight for its repeal. On the website of the parliamentary petitions placed the initiative on the suspension of decisions of the Verkhovna Rada on the adoption of the law on Ukrainian as the state language. For consideration the document should gain 25 thousand votes.
Earlier in April, the President-elect of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that after inauguration will conduct a thorough analysis of the document. According to him, the bill was passed without proper public discussion. At the same time, Zelensky said that the question of language is important, and the government should care about its development.
The law “On ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language”, the Verkhovna Rada adopted on 25 April. According to the document, language will become mandatory for public authorities and local governments, educational institutions, hospitals and service sectors. It will be required to speak in court, the army, law enforcement, advertising, during election campaigns and referendums.
