The President-elect of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andrew Parubiy small-time crook after the Parliament failed to determine the date of his inauguration. The corresponding statement Zelensky published in his Facebook account.
“Andriy Parubiy: “we Promise you that on 14 may we will set a date of the inauguration”. Lie petty crooks. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, abbreviated lie. Lying is their motto in life”, — he wrote.
Zelensky also urged Ukrainians to remember the names of people’s deputies of the current convocation, and in the next parliamentary elections to draw conclusions.
According to the law, Parliament should set the date of inauguration of the President of Ukraine within 30 days after the official announcement of the election results. In this case, the deadline for the ceremony is may 30.
Now the Parliament has registered seven resolutions that propose to set a date for the inauguration in the period from 17 may to 1 June. Himself Zelensky and his team insist that the ceremony be held on 19 may. The President-elect also accused the authorities of delaying the process of the inauguration in order to allow early parliamentary elections.
If the Verkhovna Rada majority will not be able to determine the date of the inauguration, it shall be appointed by the speaker of Parliament. Andriy Parubiy, incumbent, opposed early elections to the Parliament. In that case, if Vladimir Zelensky will officially take office after may 27, he will not be able to dissolve Parliament until the expiration of his term.
The second round of presidential elections took place in Ukraine on April 21. Zelensky has gained about 73 percent of the votes, while his rival, incumbent President Petro Poroshenko — a little more than 24 percent.
