Yekaterinburg police arrested 26 protesters against the construction of a temple on the site of the square in the city center, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Ministry of public security of the Sverdlovsk region.
“At the end of the action was detained 26 people,” — said in the message Department. Other details the Agency does not.
On Tuesday evening, may 14, the Agency wrote about the three victims during the action. Also at the end of the day, the city government reported on 23 detainees.
Protests against the construction of the Church of St. Catherine on the square near Sverdlovsk drama theater in the center of Yekaterinburg began on Monday, may 13, and continued the next day. Their members twice brought down the fence at the construction site and broke through the protected area, demanding to save the green zone. According to various estimates, disgruntled citizens were up to two thousand. Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev proposed to the parties to the conflict to engage in constructive dialogue. After negotiations, the authorities announced that the construction of the temple will continue.
Cathedral of St. Catherine are going to build by 2023, when will be celebrated the 300th anniversary of Ekaterinburg. Because of the protests of the citizens of its construction were postponed twice.
