Secret room found under the Palace of the ancient Emperor

Archaeologists restaurerede the Palace of the Roman Emperor Nero’s famous Golden house, discovered a large secret room, decorated with frescoes with images of real animals and mythical creatures. This publication reports Science Alert.

Most of the space is filled with dirt and the specialists do not run the risk to remove it because of the risk of loss of stability of the complex. The room was named in honor of the Sphinx pictured over Bastila a sacred stone, considered to be the abode of gods. In addition, the walls in red and ocher paint is applied to the drawings of the centaurs with the musical instruments of the God pan, birds, and aquatic creatures, including hippocampus — sea horses with fish tails.

Aurea — the Palace complex in Rome that began in 64 ad after the devastating fire that destroyed much of the city. It was abandoned after Nero’s death in 68 ad. The main building had 300 rooms, and its area was more than one square kilometer.
