Volkswagen announced the construction in China of two new production plants for electric cars, reports Bloomberg referring to the automaker.
The new production facilities will produce a total of 600 thousand electric cars a year. In addition, the plant is being built in Zwickau (Germany), which will produce up to 330 thousand electric cars.
After the new production facilities will earn the German automaker will leave the company Tesla, whose only plant for assembling cars in Fremont, California, can produce about 500 thousand cars, said the Agency. Tesla also plans to begin production on the outskirts of Shanghai at the end of this year — about 250 thousand cars per year.
In the next decade, Volkswagen plans to produce 22 million cars. The company has already started to take in Europe orders for its first mass electric — ID.3.
