For two weeks, during which the self-proclaimed Donetsk national Republic (DND) is in the process of issuance of Russian passports to take this opportunity decided 2.1 thousand people, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Ministry of interior DND.
Starting from may 3 entry on the passport of the citizen of Russia was conducted by the office of the migration service of Donetsk. May 7 documents were taken throughout the Republic. According to the migration service of the interior Ministry of the DPR and the Ministry of justice and the DNI, as of 1 January 2019 the population of the Republic amounted to more than 2.2 million people.
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the issuing of Russian passports to residents of the breakaway LC and the DNI is a threat to “the entire EU” as well as the post-Soviet countries. He urged European partners to take consolidated action against Russia.
In Belarus in response stated that I see no problem in the issuance of Russian passports to residents of the LNR and the DNI. In Europe, the possibility of imposing new sanctions against Russia is unlikely. Foreign Minister of Czech Republic said that the EU has no such plans, and his colleague from Romania stressed that sanctions against Russia will create problems for Ukraine.
For its part, Kiev is considering the possibility of deprivation of benefits, social payments and pensions to citizens who have received Russian passports. Also, the Ukrainian authorities plan to introduce personal sanctions against all officials involved in this procedure and does not recognize the documents are valid. Elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the current head of state Petro Poroshenko accused Russia in recognition of his alleged occupational activities.
The decree on the facilitation of the issuance of Russian passports to inhabitants of the DNI and LC was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 24. Then he noted that this measure is of a purely humanitarian nature and is not intended to create problems for the Ukrainian authorities. Later Putin said it is considering to simplify the issuing of Russian citizenship for all Ukrainians.
