Maria Matuska was required to pay her moral damages in the amount of one million rubles for illegal criminal prosecution on the case of extremism and insulting the feelings of believers because of the images in “Vkontakte”. This was announced by the head of the international human rights group “Agora” Pavel Chikov in his Telegram channel.
According to him, a lawsuit in the Central district court of Barnaul Altai territory the lawyer filed Motunau Alex Bashmakov. It is required to collect from the Ministry of Finance-pecuniary compensation in the amount of one million rubles.
Last year against Motunui opened a criminal case under part 1 article 282 and article on insulting the feelings of believers (part 1 of article 148 of the Russian criminal code). The reason are a few pictures meme saved on her page in “Vkontakte”. Guilt it is not recognized, the court spoke about the pressure of the security forces who tricked her to confess.
In the fall, after the court found violations in the case Motunau and sent him back to the Prosecutor, the girl left Russia. She went to Ukraine and was planning to seek political asylum in another country, stating that she had a psychological rejection of the homeland from the unjust accusations of extremism.
January 10, the names of the inhabitants of Barnaul Maria Motunau and Andrew Shasherina disappeared from the list of extremists and terrorists of Rosfinmonitoring: this meant that criminal cases under article 282 discontinued. In February the Prosecutor’s office of Barnaul apologized Motunau for unreasonable criminal prosecution. “Thank you, so nice,” she wrote on Twitter.
28 December 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a proposed in the state Duma the law requiring criminal prosecution for extremism will be only those who for years have been brought for the same offence to administrative responsibility. The amendments come into force implies the elimination of those already sentenced and termination of investigation of the initiated cases.
