Russian scientific production Association (NPO) “Energomash” will resume production of the rocket engine RD-120, reported foreman of the foundry shop of the enterprise Vladislav Palamarchuk in the video on YouTube.
“This engine was not made for over 30 years, now is the resumption of production, its modernization, improvement of some characteristics of indicators for use in the promising new Russian missiles,” — said the employee.
Currently, the RD-120 is produced in the list of NGO products.
In August 2018, “Energomash” has begun to develop a methane-oxygen power unit RD-169, which should be ready in 2021 or 2022.
In may of the same year it was reported that China plans in 2020 to launch its first rocket with a reusable first stage engines (derivatives YF-100) based on the RD-120, whose technology Beijing obtained from Kiev.
Basic kerosene-oxygen engine RD-120, developed in the years 1976-1985 “Energomash”, received the second stage of the rocket “Zenit”. Serial production of the power unit, as family of rockets “Zenit” was organized at the Ukrainian “Pivdenmash”. Currently, the production of such missiles is suspended, a replacement for the “Zenith” in Russia, a vehicle “Soyuz-5” (“Irtysh”).
