The main expectations of Ukrainians from Zelensky

The most important foreign policy expectations of Ukrainian new President was holding direct talks with representatives of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk national republics with the participation of Russia, follows from the data of poll of the center “Social monitoring”, the sociological group “Rating” and Ukrainian Institute for social research. Alexander Yaremenko, the results of which leads to “112 Ukraine”.

This step from a future President Vladimir Zelensky expect to 40.9 percent of Ukrainians. More likely this idea is supported by residents of the southern and Eastern regions of Ukraine — 53,6% and 55%, respectively. Least popular the idea was in the Western regions, where the negotiations are only at 29.8 percent of citizens.

At the same time in the West is popular with the idea to intensify negotiations on the Donbass with representatives of the EU and the USA. Such a step, the President expects 20.5 percent of the region’s residents. In General in Ukraine this idea is even less popular — it is supported by only 16.3 percent of citizens.

Most anticipated for the Ukrainians as the future President is the removal of immunity of deputies, judges and the President. Expect 53.7 percent of the citizens of the country. The least expected step was the intensification of negotiations on accession to NATO — only 9.9 percent of respondents hope that the new President will deal with this issue.

The five most anticipated measures also include the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war (38.4 per cent) initiation of the dissolution of the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada and appointment of early elections (38.1 per cent) and ensuring the stability of the currency and the banking system (33.7 percent).

Previous research by the Kiev international Institute of sociology (KIIS) conducted a week before the second round of presidential elections showed that the main expectation of the Ukrainians from the future President at that time was the reduction of tariffs for utilities.

The second round of presidential elections in Ukraine was held on 21 April. According to its results, the future President of Ukraine was chosen Vladimir Zelensky, who has gained about 73 percent of the vote. The inauguration is scheduled for may 20.
