In the Russian courtroom cage for the defendants will be replaced by transparent fences. This was stated by the Minister of justice of Russia Alexander Konovalov, reports “Interfax”.
According to him, the Agency discussed two options for the failure from the cells. One of them involves transition to a transparent fence made of plastic or glass, “to maintain a certain level of security, but it does not humiliate human dignity.” The second — a complete rejection of the fences.
“The second solution, I think, good. But we don’t know, perhaps a complete rejection of guards in the courtroom will be taken”, concluded Konovalov.
In April elected from the Russian judge of the European court of human rights (ECHR), Dmitry Dedov said that the presence of accused persons in cages during trials detract from their dignity. He stressed that the cell is considered as a symbol of humiliating the accused. According to him, the ECHR “sweat and blood” attempts to achieve a change in Russian courts.
In early April the government supported the project a positive review on a bill to ban cages in courtrooms. The Prosecutor’s office called abnormal practice of keeping defendants in cages or “aquariums”.
A bill to abolish the cells to the court rooms was submitted to the Duma in November last year. It was sponsored by senators Andrei Klishas and Alexei Alexandrov. The explanatory note States that the cage prevents the Russians in the realization of the right to qualified legal assistance.
