Archaeologists have discovered in the forests of Laos (Southeast Asia) megalithic structures in the form of massive stone vessels, whose purpose remains unknown. Researchers believe that the monument is related to the practice of burial of the dead. About it reported in a press release on Phys.org.
15 sites with 137 vessels, whose age is a thousand years, located in a remote mountainous area. Experts encountered similar artifacts before, but the new discovery indicates that they are more widespread than previously thought. They were cut from stone quarries and somehow transported over a distance of several kilometers, despite the fact that the weight of the vessel exceeds a ton. It remains a mystery why for the disposal of used these places.
Beside the stone “jars” scientists have found stone discs, one side of which was decorated with carvings, inscriptions, shapes, and concentric circles. In the graves were discovered artefacts such as ceramic items, glass beads, iron tools, ornaments and weights for hand spindle.
