“Gazprom” can stop using the Ukrainian transit, even if the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” is completed, said the head of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andrey KOBOLEV, transfers “Interfax”.
“According to our calculations, the Russian side has the technical ability in the next year not to use the Ukrainian transit, even if it is not constructed “Northern stream-2”, — he said. Thus, according to KOBOLEV, Gazprom will be able to meet the minimum volumes of gas supplies to its European consumers through the existing contracts.
According to calculations of the Ukrainian side, the shortage of gas supplies in such situation is approximately five billion cubic meters. The head of “Naftogaz” reported that now “Gazprom” delivers gas to Europe at an accelerated pace, thus making additional reserves, which reached a record level.
According to his calculations, this is just to cover the deficit in the event of termination of transit through Ukraine. “In my estimation, which is also shared by our European partners, the probability that January 1, 2020, we will receive the full termination of transit as it was in January 2009, is quite high,” — said Kobolyev.
Earlier, the head of “Naftogaz” made the possibility of extension of cooperation with Russian “Gazprom” after 2019, when it will expire the current contract. According to him, the Russian side is ready to negotiate only after the new President takes office.
