U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi was successful. He told this in a conversation with Fox News Radio.
He stressed that there are three areas in which parties could operate. One of them is the situation in Afghanistan. According to Pompeo, Russia and the United States perceive terrorist threats that may originate from this region, and should take steps to reduce violence there.
The second point of contact — North Korea. U.S. Secretary of state confident that the Russian side as an American interested in the fact that the region was not “nuclear materials”.
The third area in which Washington and Moscow should cooperate, according to Pompeo, the fight against terrorism. The politician reminded that earlier worked as the Director of the CIA, and knows that to ensure the security of the United States were helped by the information which had been provided by Russia. “And I know we saved a Russian life, as well as providing them information from our side,” he added.
Pompeo arrived in Russia on may 14 for talks with foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Minister said that during the meeting they discussed the situation in Venezuela, North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan and the Iranian nuclear program. Lavrov described the talks as “Frank and useful”.
