Fresh fruit juices and sweetened beverages (e.g., lemonade, and sodas) often contain about the same amount of calories and sugar, therefore the health risk, including due to premature mortality, when they are used the same. The commentary of American experts published in the JAMA Network Open.
“Fruit juice is still widely perceived as a healthier option than sweetened beverages. However, they often contain as much sugar and as many calories as sweetened beverages. Even though the sugar in 100 percent fruit juices has natural origin and is not added [person], after digestion of the biological response [in both cases] are almost identical,” — say the authors in the publication.
Although scientists admit that “fruit juices may not be as bad as sweetened drinks”, the first consumption should be moderate, especially those who control their own body weight. Maximum daily serving of fresh juice for adults scientists believe 240 milliliters.
In March it was reported that the consumption of sugary drinks, including fruit juices, increase the risk of premature death in adults older than 45 years.
