The country’s President, Alexander van der Bellen demanded to establish the facts on the video, showing strache meeting with a foreign woman, and described the situation as “a daring contempt of fellow citizens.” He also thanked the media for common cadres, adding that journalists have fulfilled the purpose of the “fourth power”.
The Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurtz, in turn, stated that greater importance for the country are not “secondary statements” in his address and the ideas concerning the abuse of power, abuse of money of the Austrian taxpayers and the media landscape of Austria.
According to the Chancellor, the Austrian freedom party, led by strache, is a detriment to reform and evolve. “Hurts the image of our country and does not correspond to my political approach is to serve the Republic and the people in our country,” he said.
Earlier on may 18 Kurtz proposed to hold early parliamentary elections “as soon as possible”. He stressed that he wanted to work for the good of the country with its political course, however, without the scandalous incidents in the government.
