The court in Yerevan has changed the measure of restraint against former President of Armenia Robert Kocharian and released him under a personal guarantee of the former and current heads of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan, reports TASS.
“The court ruled to change the measure of restraint against Robert Kocharyan to the exemption under the personal guarantee Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan,” announced the judge.
Kocharian was arrested on 27 July 2018 on charges of overthrowing the constitutional order. Less than a month he was released from custody under recognizance not to leave, but then again he was detained after a complaint of the Prosecutor General.
The case against the former head of state for the events of March 1-2, 2008. Kocharian imposed a state of emergency and dispersed the protesters, supporters of the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who took part in the 2008 elections, but lost. Then 10 people were killed, many were injured. Behind the crackdown began arrests of opposition leaders.
